So this situation really happened to me. My husband thinks its hilarious because of the grocery store worker’s proclamation that she will make a fortune with a phrase I came up with. I think it’s a little funny, but can’t help but focus on the fact that I’ve been longing for a sense of style that is my own for quite awhile. Of course I’m grateful for a sister with a terrific fashion sense who is more than willing to give me clothes in good condition when they are no longer of use to her. But the Kon Mari-ist in me wants to figure out what Sparks Joy in clothing for myself. Thankfully I’m finally doing this!
I’m working with a friend who moonlights as a stylist and she is helping me create my own Capsule Wardrobe. I’m sure you’ve seen tons of blog posts about these wardrobes its super easy to get dressed because everything goes with everything else. Well I’m delighted that I’m receiving so much more from her process than a capsule wardrobe. She’s helping me learn what cuts of clothing look good on my body and how to accentuate my own assets. My style confidence is growing as I make fashion mistakes, curative edits and then finally piece together items that look good on me.
Fortunately I don’t have to rush out and buy tons of things at once. Some of the pieces I have actually look great when paired with the right top or cardigan. And I’m surprising myself. I used to think I had this budding bohemian just bursting at the seams to express herself. When actually a classic look that flatters my figure makes me so happy! So this is a major lifestyle change for me. Doing something for myself that makes me feel good on the outside and the inside is such an act of self care. I think once the process is over I will share a few outfits here. I’m still a work in progress on the outside and the inside.
Have you determined what your style is in terms of fashion? Have you put together a capsule wardrobe? I’d really love to know how it has changed your life? Let me know in the comments.
