Today I celebrate my 15th wedding anniversary. It’s quite a milestone as far as I am concerned and I want to be in a spirit of celebration. However, I find it hard to dwell in that space with the news of even more what I call fear-based policing against men that look like my husband. I think of the women who have lost their husbands and sons and my heart is heavy. Similarly, I think of the police that lost their lives and their family, friends and co-workers in last night’s Dallas shootings. My heart is heavy. But I refuse to let fear dominate my day or my psyche as I believe love is much more powerful. So I celebrate you Mr. Jones with a poem of love and affirmation.
